Exmouth's Duck Pond
Located just outside the town centre in Exmouth is an area of grass known as the Recreation Ground or Rec Ground. Conveniently located close to Exmouth train station there's good parking both on the Rec and also serviced by two close council car parks - very handy!
Location: The Royale Ave, Exmouth, EX8 1DG
There's a public slip to the west of the ground so landing and launching is really very easy and best done one to two hours prior to high water.
The waters here are really quite safe but footwear is advisable and always check out the weather and tides before launching.
From the Duck Pond you have easy access to paddle to Lympstone, Cockwood, Dawlish Warren and even around to the Exmouth seafront but in all cases paddle within your ability and check out the weather and tides.
The water at the Duck Pond can be lovely and shallow and in some states of low tide a channel forms about 100 metres from the slip which is a fantastic location to train and swim.
Duck Pond Notes:
- The Duck Pond is a tidal area so check out the tides
- The Duck Pond is also a boat mooring area so waist leashes are a must
- Areas of the Duck Pond have shell fish beds and rocks so good footwear recommended
- Sandbars form at low tide but the sand can be quite soft
- Beware of offshore winds when the tide is running out
- To the right of the slip looking out is a nature reserve zone where you must not enter between 15th September and 31st December unless in emergency
- A series of yellow markers can be seen that mark out the reserve
